Email Mistakes

How to recall an email after sending it

What Gmail, Outlook and Recall24 can and can’t do once an email has left your outbox.

It happens to everyone: you hit Send and immediately see the problem. The good news is that you have more options than you might think, as long as you act quickly.

In Gmail: Undo Send

Gmail can hold a message back for a few seconds before it actually goes out. You can set this cancellation period to 5, 10, 20 or 30 seconds in Gmail’s settings. Click Undo within that window and the email is never sent. After that, it’s delivered.

In Outlook: Recall This Message

Outlook’s built-in recall only works in specific situations, typically when you and your recipient use Microsoft 365 or Exchange within the same organization. It can’t reach someone who uses a different email provider.

With Recall24: 24 hours

Recall24 lets you send normally from Gmail or Outlook, then gives you 24 hours to recall access to the message if you change your mind.
